VAAD Ukraine Delegation meets with the President of the World Jewish Congress
On April 25, the President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder met with the delegation of VAAD Ukraine in New York. The meeting was held withing the framework of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Plenary Assembly. Participants of the meeting discussed the general situation in Ukraine, the level of antisemitic incidents, and problems accompanying the ongoing decommunization of Ukraine. Particular attention was given to memorial projects concerning the Babyn Yar, a mass shooting site from World War II.
WJC Executive Vice President and Director General Robert Singer also participated in the meeting.
The Jewish-Ukrainian side included Co-President of the Association of Jewish Communities and Organizations (VAAD) Ukraine, Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Josef Zissels, President of the Ukrainian Union of Jewish Students (UUJS) Victoria Godyk, EAJC General Council members Leonid Finberg and rabbi Alexander Dukhovny. A part of the meeting was dedicated to the situation within the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. Michael Chlenov, EAJC Secretary General, was also present for this discussion.
