Dr. Chaim Ben Yakov on the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis (RTVI and Channel 9)

News

EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov participated in a special broadcast of the program "Den" ("The Day") on Israeli Channel 9, which was dedicated to the armed conflict in Ukraine. He outlined the efforts made by the Congress leadership to stabilize the situation in the region and evacuate refugees from the conflict zone.

He described the Israeli government's decision to seriously consider assisting Ukrainian refugees as "unquestionably correct." "One must help where help is possible and do what one is capable of doing," the EAJC Director General stated on Channel 9. "For this reason, EAJC President Mikhail Mirilashvili initiated an effort to involve Ronald Lauder, leader of the World Jewish Congress, in the process of bringing the parties' perspectives closer together."

Later, following the conclusion of the Shabbat, Dr. Haim Ben Yakov was interviewed on the program "Israel This Week" on the international television network RTVI. Speaking with host Boris Shtern, he discussed the strain on the infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova, which is hosting refugees, as well as the efforts of the local Jewish community.

"The situation in Moldova is currently highly challenging. A small country with a small Jewish community is receiving a substantial number of refugees. There are approximately half a million refugees in total, and the local Jewish community has accommodated more than five thousand Jewish families," Dr. Haim Ben Yakov noted.
