Dr. Boris Morozov (Tel Aviv University) delivered a lecture in Kyiv as part of the "Public Diplomacy" project organized by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.

On March 6, the "Sifriya" library at the Jewish Community Center in Kyiv hosted a lecture organized by the All-Ukrainian Jewish Congress, titled: "The Establishment of the State of Israel: Secrets of Diplomacy."

Dr. Morozov discussed the initiation of contacts between Soviet diplomats and the leadership of the Yishuv, negotiations between Ben-Gurion and Soviet diplomats Ivan Maisky, Konstantin Umansky, and Maxim Litvinov in 1941, as well as the visit of Maisky and other Soviet officials to Palestine. The lecture also covered the Yalta Conference, the establishment of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on Palestine in 1945, and the 1946 London Conference on Palestine. Special emphasis was placed on the shift in the Soviet stance, which ultimately led the USSR and its allies to support the creation of an independent Jewish state and resulted in the UN General Assembly Resolution on November 29, 1947, partitioning Palestine into Arab and Jewish states.

The lecture was followed by an impromptu discussion addressing US foreign policy in the Middle East, President Roosevelt's role in the establishment of Israel, Joseph Stalin's attitude toward Zionism, Anglo-Soviet geopolitical rivalries in the region, the Balfour Declaration, and the British Mandate.

A primary objective of the "Public Diplomacy" project is to foster an accurate and objective understanding of Israel across the Euro-Asian region. Consequently, the project actively facilitates lectures and presentations by Israeli speakers throughout the EA region.
