The EAJC expresses its gratitude to the Moldovan authorities for their assistance to Jewish refugees from Ukraine

Assistance to Jewish refugees from Ukraine serves as a prime example of the Moldovan authorities' policy in relations with Israel. This was stated by Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, during a working meeting with Alexander Roitman, Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Moldova to Israel. The meeting was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of full-scale diplomatic relations between the State of Israel and the Republic of Moldova. The parties discussed perspectives for the development of cultural, academic, and educational programs. Special events dedicated to this commemorative date will take place later.

“We express our gratitude to the authorities of the Republic of Moldova for their practical measures in providing assistance to resolve the humanitarian issues of numerous refugees who found support in Moldova, as well as in combating antisemitism in all its manifestations,” noted Dr. Haim Ben Yakov. “We remain convinced that the politically sound decisions recently made in Moldova, aimed at combating antisemitism and supporting Israel, meet with understanding both within the Republic of Moldova and in the international arena.”

The Director General of the EAJC also emphasized that the organization welcomes the Moldovan government's adoption of the working definition of antisemitism formulated by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. The document was unanimously approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in January 2019.

As a reminder, earlier in August 2018, a representative delegation of Jewish leaders led by Michael Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), visited Moldova. During the visit, the delegation held a series of working meetings with government ministers, politicians, and public figures.
