The EAJC condemns the inappropriate comparison of political events to the Holocaust

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, January 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov compared the international isolation of Russia during the war in Ukraine to the systematic murder of Jews in Europe during the Holocaust. The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress strongly condemns such inappropriate comparisons. It is deeply regrettable that officials of various states continue to invoke the tragedy of the Holocaust of European Jewry under the guise of far-fetched and unfounded historical parallels with current events.

"The memory of the six million Jews—men, women, and children who perished during the Holocaust—is sacred! The Holocaust is an unprecedented phenomenon in human history, a dark chapter where atrocities met with impunity, plunging the world into chaos. For our people, this is not merely a historical event, but an enduring human sorrow, an everlasting memory of human sacrifices and of material and spiritual losses. This is a chapter of Jewish history that we can never turn. A monstrous tragedy that must be remembered to ensure it is never repeated," stated EAJC Director General Dr. Chaim Ben Yakov.
