The EAJC supports the demand of the Jewish community of Croatia to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding the role of Croatian collaborators in the Holocaust

Rabbi Kotel Da-Don, representing the "Bet Israel" Jewish community of Croatia, has expressed deep concern that the Zagreb City Assembly's decision to dedicate a monument to the six million victims of the Holocaust, while avoiding  any mention of the role of the Croatian Ustaše in the extermination of the country's Jews, remains in force.

Despite protests from the Croatian Jewish community and the international Jewish community, the Zagreb City Assembly continues to disregard the active role of Croatian collaborators in the extermination of tens of thousands of Jews.

An ally of Nazi Germany, the fascist Independent State of Croatia (NDH) existed from 1941 to 1945 under the leadership of the Croatian fascist organization "Ustaše," which established the Jasenovac death camp system as early as 1941.

A 1942 Gestapo report and other historical documents outline in detail the repression, deportation, and mass murder of Jews at the hands of the Ustaše, including accusations of senseless brutality by local authorities. Experts estimate that three-quarters of the Croatian Jews who perished in the Holocaust died at the hands of the fascist NDH regime.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress supports the demand of the Croatian Jewish community to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding the heinous crimes against humanity committed by the fascist Ustaše regime.

EAJC President Michael Mirilashvili stated: "Regrettably, we are witnessing attempts by the Croatian authorities to rewrite history and exonerate the Ustaše regime from responsibility for complicity in the mass murder of Jews, Roma, and ethnic Serbs. We strongly condemn such an approach to historical assessment."

EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov declared: "We are convinced that the creation of a memorial must be based on the principle of preserving historical truth and honoring the memory of those who perished during World War II. Crimes committed by misanthropic regimes must not be concealed, nor must responsibility be shifted solely onto Nazi Germany. We also strongly urge that the position of the Croatian Jewish community, which has expressed dissatisfaction with the stance of the authorities, be taken into account."
