The EAJC welcomes the decision of the Albanian government to adopt the working definition of antisemitism

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress welcomes the decision of the Albanian Government to adopt the working definition of antisemitism formulated by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which states that the delegitimization and demonization of Israel constitute forms of antisemitism.

During World War II, many Albanians actively aided Jews and saved them from deportation. Dozens of them have been recognized as Righteous Among the Nations. The EAJC is grateful to Albania for its stance toward the Jewish people and the Jewish state, which has remained positive and supportive over many decades.

The President of the EAJC, Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, stated: "The adoption of the working definition of antisemitism by Albania, the second country with a Muslim majority to do so, represents a highly significant step toward the eradication of antisemitism. We are grateful to the Albanian Government and the entire Albanian nation for their stance toward the State of Israel. I urge all nations to adopt the working definition of antisemitism formulated by the IHRA and to deploy all necessary resources to combat its manifestations."
