The EAJC welcomes Azerbaijan's decision to open an embassy in Tel Aviv.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress welcomes the decision of Azerbaijan to open an embassy in Tel Aviv. This event represents another significant step toward strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Azerbaijani diplomatic mission will be Israel's first official representation of a state with a predominantly Shia Muslim population. Following the leadership of the Jewish State, the leaders of the EAJC express their gratitude to their Azerbaijani colleagues for developing the bilateral partnership. Notably, the Congress has consistently contributed to deepening Israeli-Azerbaijani cooperation. Specifically, the establishment of a diplomatic mission in Israel was previously raised during a personal meeting between the EAJC leadership and the President of the Republic, Ilham Aliyev, in 2019. At the time, the President of Azerbaijan pledged to progress this initiative step-by-step.

Commenting on the parliamentary decision approved by President Ilham Aliyev, the President of the EAJC, Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, congratulated the leaders of both nations on the commencement of this new phase of closer relations, emphasizing that both Israelis and the Jewish diaspora view the development of joint initiatives with Azerbaijani partners in an exceptionally positive light.

“Throughout its history, Azerbaijan has consistently demonstrated its status as a highly respected, tolerant, multicultural, and multi-confessional state. This integration of tradition and historical heritage on the one hand, and openness to the values of the modern world on the other, enables the country to implement a balanced domestic policy while strengthening external relations. Earlier this year, Azerbaijan became one of the few Muslim countries where International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed as an official state date. Now, we witness another step toward the Jewish people and the State of Israel with the opening of the embassy in Tel Aviv. I am convinced that this decision will serve as a milestone for a new chapter in bilateral cooperation between our states in the fields of culture, science, and economy,” stated Mikhail Mirilashvili.
