The EAJC has called upon state leaders to take decisive action to combat the rise of antisemitism

The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has expressed grave concern regarding the statement by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on a 13% increase in anti-Semitic incidents in 2018 compared to the previous year.

In her address to the UN General Assembly, President of the General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa cited reports of rising anti-Semitism in Europe and other regions, urging the international community to monitor online hate speech.

According to a study by the Technical University of Berlin, the volume of anti-Semitic comments online nearly tripled between 2007 and 2018. This alarming trend is primarily manifested on social media networks, facilitating the rapid dissemination of hatred towards the Jewish people and state.

“We are deeply concerned by the escalating manifestations of anti-Semitism, including the demonization and delegitimization of Israel. This shameful and highly dangerous phenomenon must not be tolerated. Therefore, we call upon heads of state to wage an unrelenting struggle against manifestations of hatred and acts of violence targeted at Jews,” stated President of the EAJC Mikhail Mirilashvili.

“The EAJC remains committed to actively confronting the misanthropic manifestations of modern anti-Semitism. Today, it is not driven by state policy, as was the case in Nazi Germany, meaning that the responsibility to combat it rests squarely on public authorities. Consequently, we will firmly object to any complacency towards anti-Semites and urge governments to take decisive action against anti-Semitism,” said Director General of the EAJC Haim Ben Yakov.
