To the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili

To the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili

Dear Mr. President and Mr. Prime Minister,

We are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating fire at the Leo Grand Hotel in Batumi, which claimed the lives of eleven people.

I was born in Georgia, and every time I visit my homeland, I feel entirely at home. When tragedy strikes your homeland, it is always a deeply personal loss. In recent years, Georgia has become a favored destination for Jews worldwide, fostering a particularly close bond between the Georgian and Jewish peoples. The tragedy in Batumi has profoundly affected Israel and Jewish communities across the globe.

On behalf of all the Jewish communities of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, and on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and wish a swift recovery to those injured.

Sharing in your grief and the grief of the people of Georgia,

Michael Mirilashvili,

President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
