The Philippines saved over 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust

During the 1930s, a dark cloud gathered over European Jewry. Preoccupied with mitigating the global economic crisis, Western nations closed their doors to Jewish refugees, leaving German and Austrian Jews to face almost certain death.

Concurrently, the Philippines took significant measures to save Jewish refugees. It also stood as the sole Asian nation to endorse the United Nations resolution establishing the State of Israel.

While the local Jewish population has declined considerably over the years, a community of several hundred remains active today. The country hosts a functioning synagogue and publishes a monthly Jewish newsletter.

In 2020, the Jewish Community of the Philippines officially affiliated with the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
