EAJC Leaders Condemn Acts of Vandalism in Armenia

The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and the heads of Jewish organizations in Armenia are deeply concerned by the acts of vandalism committed in Yerevan on February 12 of this year against the Memorial to the Victims of the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust, as well as the memorial stone in the Armenia-Israel Friendship Alley in Hakhtanak Park.

These actions constitute a desecration of the memory of the victims, present a direct threat to the safety of Armenian citizens of Jewish descent, and represent a provocation aimed at inciting inter-ethnic hatred. Regrettably, previous instances of vandalism have not met with an adequate response or appropriate action from Armenian officials and law enforcement authorities.

The leadership of the EAJC stands in solidarity with the Jewish community of Armenia during these challenging times and demands that the Armenian government and law enforcement agencies conduct a thorough investigation into these incidents and hold all perpetrators accountable. Furthermore, the EAJC calls upon the Armenian authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

"I must emphasize that such incidents pose a danger to the entire Armenian nation and will carry grave moral consequences. I am also convinced that the international community will not remain indifferent and will view any inaction on the part of the Republic's government with utmost severity," stated Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, Director General of the EAJC.
