The documentary film "The Markish Case" has been released on YouTube

On January 17, the International Memorial in Moscow hosted the premiere screening of the documentary film "The Markish Case". The film’s producer, Evgeny Kogan, presented the documentary and spoke about its central figure, the writer David Markish.

"The Markish Case" is a unique six-part documentary project co-produced by the Babel Bookstore (Tel Aviv) and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. The project centers on the first-person narrative of David Markish—an author of fifteen novels, publicist, public figure, and son of Peretz Markish. Peretz Markish was a prominent Yiddish-language poet, novelist, playwright, and a leader of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, who was executed in 1952 alongside other distinguished figures of Jewish culture in connection with the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee case.

His son, David Markish, has resided in Israel since the early 1970s. He is a recipient of several Israeli and international literary awards, and his works have been widely translated into Hebrew and various European languages.

The screening is part of a joint initiative by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, the International Memorial, the GULAG History Museum, and the "Last Address" project, dedicated to commemorating the repressed members of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee. Notably, as part of this program, the International Memorial is currently hosting the exhibition "Bromberg's Violin: Victims of Anti-Jewish Campaigns in the USSR, 1920–1950."

The St. Petersburg premiere of "The Markish Case" will take place on January 21 at the Anna Akhmatova Museum at the Fountain House. The event begins at 18:30.
