The Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Russian Federation, Alexander Ben Zvi, Visited MGIMO University

On May 19, as part of the "Ambassadorial Dialogue" lecture series, Alexander Ben Zvi, Ambassador of the State of Israel, visited MGIMO University.

The diplomat was received by Dr. Andrey Baykov, Vice-Rector for Research and Dean of the School of International Relations, and Dr. Shula Mirilashvili, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress in Russia and President of the All-Russian Union of Jewish Students.

In his address, Ambassador Alexander Ben Zvi focused on the practical aspects of diplomacy, drawing on the example of the Middle East crisis. He urged students not to underestimate the significance of history when analyzing international situations and to thoroughly study the events preceding any escalation of conflict. The distinguished guest provided the audience with a detailed account of the origins of the Middle East conflict, its evolution, and the current state of affairs.

Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, stated: “Over the past week and a half, Israel has once again faced unprecedented aggression from the terrorist organization Hamas. Thousands of rockets have been fired at the territory of the Jewish State, numerous homes have been partially or completely destroyed, hundreds of civilians have been injured, and approximately ten have been killed. Nevertheless, in some countries, it is the Israeli side that is currently subjected to harsh criticism and condemnation.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has set itself the goal of disseminating accurate and, above all, truthful information regarding the current escalation of the Arab-Israeli conflict throughout the Euro-Asian region. We are sincerely pleased that, as part of our outreach efforts, we were able to facilitate a meeting between Ambassador Alexander Ben Zvi and the leadership and students of MGIMO University. Ambassador Ben Zvi is an outstanding speaker and an exceptional diplomat, and we are gratified that he was able to assist future Russian colleagues in understanding the complex situation unfolding today in the Middle East.”
