A panel on the study of Ukrainian Jewry will be held with the support of the EAJC and the EUC

On August 11, a session dedicated to the study of Ukrainian Jewry will be held as part of the World Congress of Jewish Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The theme of the meeting is "Village-dwelling Jews of Ukraine in the Modern Era." The event is organized through the joint efforts of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine (JCU) and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), which launched a special initiative in 2021 to study Ukrainian Jewry under the auspices of the Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Center at Tel Aviv University.

According to the conference organizers, the study of the history of Ukrainian Jews has acquired particular relevance under current global circumstances.

The Research Center for the History of Ukrainian Jewry at Tel Aviv University was established in 2021 with the support of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. The primary objective of this project is to conduct objective, depoliticized research into the history of Jews on the territory of Ukraine, strictly based on archival documents and verified historical facts.

"Jewish life on Ukrainian soil spans centuries. The so-called Kiev Letter, discovered in the Cairo Geniza, indicates that Jews resided in Kyiv as early as the 10th century. There are numerous subjects and perspectives requiring rigorous academic study to broaden our historical understanding," commented EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili regarding the conference.
