With the support of the EAJC, David Markish's book "Notes from a Bygone Time" has been published

With the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), the Babel Books publishing house has released a book of memoirs by Israeli writer David Markish, titled "Notes from the Past."

The publication is a collection of Markish's stories about his remarkable life: from his encounters with Anna Akhmatova to his search for Yeti, from the first post-war summer to the conquest of the Pamir Mountains. The author's style is characterized by his distinctive, natural voice: incomparable intonation, sharp humor, and a sarcastic yet persistently warm outlook on the world reflecting his enduring, genuine interest in life.

David Markish is a writer, author of over a dozen novels, publicist, and public figure. He is the son of Peretz Markish, a poet and one of the leaders of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, and has lived in Israel since the early 1970s. Markish has received various Israeli and international literary awards, and a significant portion of his work has been translated into Hebrew and European languages.

This publication represents another milestone in the multifaceted and long-term cooperation of the EAJC with the Israeli Babel publishing house and David Markish.

In 2021, with the support of the Congress, the Hebrew translation of Markish's book on the history of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee (JAC), "From Border to Border," was published.

Previously, also supported by the EAJC, a unique six-part documentary series by Elena Kogan, "The Markish Case," was released. It chronicles his life, the history of the JAC, the Refusenik experience, David Markish and his family's resettlement in Israel, their life there, their social circles, and his literary work.
