The Sefer Center has been awarded a grant from the President of the Russian Federation

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress congratulates the "Sefer" Center for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization on winning the presidential grant competition supporting projects in science, education, and enlightenment.

The full title of the project is "Science and Education without Borders: Developing a Scientific Communication Environment and a Sustainable Community of Students, Young Teachers, and Researchers of Jewish Studies in Russia." The grant amount is 5.7 million rubles, with an additional 5.5 million rubles expected to be raised through co-financing.

According to the "Sefer" Center, despite the rapid development of Jewish studies in post-Soviet Russia, this academic discipline faces numerous challenges. The primary issue is the isolation of individual research and educational centers, the lack of a shared academic environment, and the difficulty for students from various Russian regions to conduct research in Jewish studies.

The project entails organizing winter and summer schools in Jewish studies in Moscow, a seminar in Omsk, as well as a series of webinars and lectures. These initiatives will enable students from any part of Russia to access lectures by leading experts in their field, while offering young scholars valuable teaching experience. Additionally, the grant will support the organization of youth sections at the XXVI International Annual Conference on Jewish Studies (July 14–16, 2019). Highly rated presentations by young researchers will be published in a peer-reviewed volume of conference proceedings.
