The Documentary Film 'Echoes of the Holocaust' Premieres in Kyrgyzstan

As part of the online memorial ceremony for the victims of the Shoah, the Jewish community of Kyrgyzstan presented a documentary-publicistic film, "Echo of the Holocaust: Sretenka, My Sorrow." The film was produced by the community at the media studio of the ORT Pri Etz Chaim Jewish school.

Through personal narratives, the film portrays the tragedy of the Holocaust, the evacuation of Jewish people to Kyrgyzstan, the assistance and tolerance displayed by the local population, the formation of the Jewish community in Kyrgyzstan, and the subsequent events that became a tragic echo of the war, the Shoah, the evacuation, and state-sponsored antisemitism in the USSR.

The film also features a memorial event dedicated to Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2021, co-organized by the Jewish community and the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. Key speakers at this event included Major General R. Musaev, Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan; Lieutenant General T. Mamytov, Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan; K. Bazarbaev, Head of the Department for Humanitarian Development Monitoring and Interaction with Civil Society Institutions of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan; K. Bokonbaev, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences; and M. Karagulov, Head of the District Administration.
