Moscow Hosts the 3rd International "Protecting the Future" Conference

On November 22-23, the 3rd International Conference on Countering Xenophobia, Antisemitism, and Racism "Protecting the Future" is taking place in Moscow.

The conference is organized by the Russian Jewish Congress with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow, and Sberbank of Russia. Partners include the World Jewish Congress, the Genesis Philanthropy Group, and the International Center for the History of the Holocaust and Genocides of the Russian State University for the Humanities.

The conference traditionally gathers numerous scholars, public figures, and politicians, serving as one of the leading platforms for the exchange of knowledge and opinions on combating antisemitism. This year's participants include the Minister of Diaspora Affairs of the State of Israel Nachman Shai, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben-Zvi, President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov, OSCE Personal Representative on Combating Antisemitism Andrew Baker, and other international speakers.

Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, addressed the organizers and participants of the conference with welcoming remarks.

"One of the most pressing issues in the Jewish world is the dynamics of contemporary antisemitism. We observe anti-Jewish incidents worldwide, including in the countries of the former Soviet Union, with grave concern. Such phenomena demand a firm response, which is why the priority areas of EAJC activities are the preservation of historical memory, as well as active diplomatic efforts in countering antisemitism and Holocaust denial. The Congress and its experts closely monitor public sentiment, analyzing data from various monitoring agencies, as well as reports from relevant organizations in Israel, the EU, and the US. This data serves as the foundation for scholarly and analytical publications issued under the auspices of our Institute for Euro-Asian Jewish Studies (IEAJS)."

During the session "Researching Xenophobia and Antisemitism: Methods, Forms, Problems," EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov presented the monographic collection "Antisemitism, Tolerance, and Historical Memory in the Post-Soviet Space," published by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. The volume contains a detailed analysis of antisemitism issues in the largest post-Soviet nations and characterizes this phenomenon from historical, sociological, and political perspectives through a series of articles by prominent scholars from Russia, Ukraine, and Israel.
