Statement by the President of the EAJC regarding Iran's attack on the territory of Azerbaijan

Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, commented on the Iranian drone attack on the Azerbaijani city of Nakhchivan:

"The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress strongly condemns the drone attack launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Attacks on civilian infrastructure, which damaged Nakhchivan International Airport and injured civilians, constitute a gross violation of international law and further evidence of the destabilizing policy pursued by the Iranian regime in the region.

Such actions not only threaten the security of Azerbaijan but also increase overall tensions in the South Caucasus and the wider Euro-Asian region. The international community must offer a clear and unequivocal response to such acts of aggression directed against a sovereign state and its citizens.

According to a recent review conducted by the Congress, there is currently no Jewish population residing within the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Nevertheless, the leadership of the EAJC remains in constant contact with the leaders of the Jewish community of Azerbaijan and is closely monitoring developments. Should the need arise, the Congress stands ready to provide all necessary support and assistance to ensure the security of the community.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress expresses its solidarity with the Republic of Azerbaijan and wishes a swift recovery to the injured. We expect the Iranian regime to be held to the highest standard of accountability for this attack."
