The Maimonides Jewish Community Center

The shtetl of Anatevka (Anatovka, Gnatovka) is famously depicted in Sholem Aleichem's masterpiece, "Tevye the Dairyman." Situated near the town, the historic Jewish cemetery is home to the ohel of the great Tzadik, Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl, who foretold the Chernobyl disaster nearly two centuries before it occurred. By the early twentieth century, the shtetl had gradually fallen into decline. However, in 2015, under the leadership of the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Moshe Reuven Azman, the revival of this historic Jewish settlement began on its original site. Today, Anatevka features a fully functioning dormitory, a synagogue, a cheder, the "Mitzvat Moshe" educational complex, the "Gan Zelda" kindergarten, and two residential apartment buildings. Currently under construction are a dedicated cheder building, a third apartment complex, a multidisciplinary rehabilitation center, and a Jewish museum.

The restoration of Anatevka was conceived to address the critical need of underprivileged Ukrainian Jews for a secure and dignified environment in which to maintain their Jewish way of life. The core concept of the "Beit Rambam" center focuses on providing comprehensive social, psychological, physical, and spiritual rehabilitation for individuals facing severe hardship, as well as for elderly members of the community.

"Beit Rambam" places a particular emphasis on supporting the community's senior citizens. The center plans to establish a full-day senior club, offering elderly members a dedicated space to socialize within a Jewish environment, pursue educational opportunities, improve their physical well-being, and receive nutritious kosher meals.
