About the Institute
The Institute for Euro-Asian Jewish Studies (IEAJS) is a project of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), established as a professional academic platform (think-tank) for leading experts on Jewish communities in the CIS, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and Western, Central, and Eastern Asia.
The Institute aims to conduct academic and applied research on the current state of Jewish communities in these regions within the framework of the socio-political situation in their respective host countries, their relations with the State of Israel and regional power centers, migration patterns within the local Jewish population, as well as the history, culture, and socio-political heritage of these communities.
Communities, member organizations of the EAJC, and partners of the Congress are invited to assist in conducting research, identifying contributing authors, collecting source materials, developing proposals, commissioning projects (including co-funding), and organizing presentations of the Institute's publications.
In partnership with colleagues across the former USSR, the Institute has initiated a large-scale sociological study titled "Jewish Communities of the Post-Soviet Space: Current State and Development Trends." The study involves a survey of the Jewish population (under a broad definition) in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and Moldova. It aims to gain a deeper understanding of the development of Jewish and other ethnic identities, current trends in community formation, and to evaluate the mechanisms of integration into Jewish life for individuals of non-Jewish and mixed origin, migration dynamics, the socio-economic status of various Jewish cohorts in these countries, and their relationship with Israel.
The Institute welcomes the assistance of local communities in conducting this survey and will readily share the findings, which we anticipate will prove valuable in planning their future activities.
