State-sponsored antisemitism is commonly associated with the Stalinist "Doctors' plot," the cynical caricatures published in the "Krokodil" magazine, and the liquidation of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, which had fallen out of Stalin's favor.
Researcher Mikhail Mitsel, senior archivist at the Joint Archives in New York, examined Soviet archival documents and authored an article detailing how a locksmith named Makarenko claimed that, following victory in World War II, Zhukov and Stalin contemplated—to quote directly—"getting rid of the kikes," while a kindergarten teacher shared an anecdote about the wife of a party official proposing to "populate the Kremlin with Jews."
