On April 11, St. Petersburg will host 'Luka', a solo performance dedicated to the memory of Alexander Pechersky.

On April 11, the Park of Culture and Reading "Bukvoed" will host the Saint Petersburg premiere of "Luka," a one-man show based on the mystical poem of the same name by Mark Geylikman. The audience will experience the poetic love story of Alexander Pechersky—the leader of the only successful uprising in a Nazi death camp in history, Sobibor—and the Dutch captive Luka, whom he called the "muse of the uprising." The poem will be recited by the author, Russian poet and public figure Mark Geylikman, accompanied by a poignant flute performance of music by contemporary Saint Petersburg composers.

The performance is timed to coincide with the International Day of Liberation of Nazi Concentration Camp Prisoners. The organizers are the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and the EKSMO Publishing House.

Bella Waldberg, Director General of EAJC-Russia, stated: "Viktor Frankl, the prominent psychiatrist and former Theresienstadt prisoner, wrote: 'We had to awaken the will to live, to continue existing, to survive the imprisonment. But in each case, the courage to live or the weariness of life depended solely on whether the individual retained faith in the meaning of life, of their own life. The motto of all psychotherapeutic work carried out in the concentration camp could be the words of Nietzsche: "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how."' This beautiful story of a Dutch girl and a 'lucky' shirt demonstrates that life and faith can accompany a person even in the most inhumane conditions."

The performance will be followed by a meeting with the authors of books on the Sobibor uprising. Ilya Vasilyev—co-screenwriter, creative producer of the film "Sobibor," and Chairman of the Board of the Alexander Pechersky Foundation—will present the book "Sobibor: Uprising in the Death Camp," an adapted screenplay, as well as a new biography of the escape leader, "Sobibor: The Return of Alexander Pechersky's Heroic Deed" (which also features the poem "Luka"). Mikhail Edelstein, Scientific Director of the Alexander Pechersky Foundation, and Yulia Makarova will present the album "Sobibor: Chronicle of the Death Camp Uprising."

The event will take place on April 11 at the Park of Culture and Reading "Bukvoed" (46 Nevsky Prospekt). The event begins at 19:00.

A day earlier, the exhibition "Sobibor: The Return of Alexander Pechersky's Heroic Deed" will open at the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers, and Signal Corps in Saint Petersburg, organized by the Alexander Pechersky Foundation with the support of the EAJC.
