A delegation from the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress has concluded an official visit to Georgia

A delegation of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and the World Jewish Congress (WJC), led by EAJC President Mikhail Mirilashvili, has visited Georgia.

The visiting delegation also included WJC CEO and Executive Vice President Robert Singer, EAJC Chairman of the Board Aaron Frenkel, EAJC First Vice President Temur Ben Yehuda, EAJC Director General Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, and Head of the Rabbinical Council of the CIS, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar.

In Tbilisi, the delegation held meetings with Head of Government Mamuka Bakhtadze and President Salome Zourabichvili. The discussions focused on the 2600-year history of peaceful coexistence between Jews and Georgians, their shared culture and values, such as tolerance, as well as the close ties of the Georgian-Jewish diaspora with the local Jewish community. The parties also addressed the development and strengthening of bilateral relations with Israel, including in the fields of tourism, business, and economic cooperation.

The delegation visited the Tbilisi synagogue and attended the opening ceremony of a new Jewish school, the construction of which was funded by the EAJC. The school is set to become a key symbol of the future of Jewish life in Georgia.

EAJC President Mikhail Mirilashvili noted that Georgia has historically demonstrated tolerance and hospitality toward its Jewish population, adding that the EAJC, in cooperation with the WJC and UNESCO, would gladly support initiatives to preserve and commemorate the history of Georgian Jewry.

EAJC Chairman of the Board Aaron Frenkel added that expanding cooperation in tourism and trade between Georgia and Israel could serve as a model of fruitful partnership for other regions worldwide.
