
On April 15, Gillian Merron, former President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, was introduced to the House of Lords after being elevated to a life peerage.
The announcement of Merron’s elevation to the peerage was made in December 2020. Consequently, in January 2021, she announced her upcoming resignation as President of the Board of Deputies, an office she held from 2014 to 2021. Gillian Merron also served as a UK representative to the World Jewish Congress. In addition, she served as a Labour Member of Parliament for 13 years.
Dr. Mikhael Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, extended his congratulations to Baroness Merron on the commencement of her tenure in the House of Lords, expressing gratitude for her cooperation within the World Jewish Congress and wishing her success in her new role.
