The EAJC has honored composer Josef Bardanashvili for his outstanding contribution to the arts

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) has formally presented an honorary certificate to the distinguished composer Josef Bardanashvili in recognition of his unprecedented contribution to Israeli and Jewish musical art. The presentation ceremony coincided with the launch of the 40th anniversary season of the Israeli Opera, which opened with the legendary production of An-sky’s “The Dybbuk,” set to Bardanashvili's music.

The text of the certificate expresses profound gratitude to the composer for his long-standing and significant contribution to the development of Israeli culture, for his original and innovative body of work that enriches the world of music and opera, and for his consistent efforts to strengthen the cultural and spiritual ties between the State of Israel and the Jewish communities of the Euro-Asian region and worldwide. The symbolical significance of presenting this award on the day of the world premiere and the opening of the Israeli Opera's anniversary season is highly emphasized, serving as recognition of his artistic vision, creative courage, and dedication to the development of national culture.

Josef Bardanashvili is an eminent Israeli composer. In 1973, he graduated from the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, studying composition under A.V. Shaverzashvili. He has lived and worked in Israel since 1995. He teaches at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Since 2011, he has served as the composer-in-residence for the Jerusalem Camerata. His creative legacy encompasses operas, ballets, symphonic and chamber works, choral music, as well as scores for theater and cinema.
