The EAJC has condemned the antisemitic incident in Lviv

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress strongly condemns the antisemitic incident in Lviv: "This antisemitic provocation, aimed at disrupting a Holocaust memorial event, is a cynical assault that desecrates the memory of the victims. We urge law enforcement authorities to treat the investigation of this attack with the utmost seriousness and to bring those responsible to justice, including the instigators whose antisemitic rhetoric led to this incident. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this instance; however, the line between such provocations and attacks that can result in the loss of human life is extremely thin. Hate crimes driven by ethnic animosity represent a severe societal malady that demands decisive action from the law enforcement system."

The incident occurred on Monday, January 29. According to a representative of the "Ye" bookstore, during a lecture on the Holocaust held in the presentation hall on the second floor, a teenager aged 15-16 with his face covered by a scarf entered the bookstore. He ascended the stairs, threw a lit smoke bomb onto the landing between the first and second floors, and subsequently fled. One of the lecture attendees removed the smoke bomb from the building almost immediately, yet the entire premises of the store were filled with smoke. The store administration summoned the police, and the lecture organizers filed an official complaint.
