The EAJC condemns the adoption of anti-Israeli resolutions by the UN

News

Last Friday, November 11, the UN Fourth Committee, which handles special political and decolonization issues, approved by a majority vote a proposal by the Palestinian representative to have the International Court of Justice in The Hague examine the “legal consequences of the ongoing Israeli occupation.” During the committee session, it was emphasized that the ultimate goal of the Palestinian side is to obtain a judicial ruling characterizing the Israeli presence in Judea and Samaria as “annexation.”

The following day, Saturday, November 12, the UN Fourth Committee adopted a total of five anti-Israel resolutions. These included resolutions “On Assistance to Palestine Refugees,” on the operations of the UNRWA, “on Palestine refugees' properties and their revenues,” “on the occupied Syrian Golan,” and a condemnation of “Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan.”

Israel's Permanent Representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, accused the Palestinian Authority initiators of the resolutions of “lies and hypocrisy,” noting that “In the past two years, Israel has signed four peace agreements.” “We are the only liberal democracy in the Middle East. We educate our children for peace and coexistence...,” he stated.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) expresses grave concern over the aforementioned UN decisions and aligns itself with the position of Israel. Congress leadership has previously and repeatedly pointed out the biased stance of various UN bodies regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The EAJC is deeply concerned by findings in antisemitism research indicating that anti-Israel sentiment serves as a latent form of hostility toward Jewish people.

Following the UN vote, EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili expressed his gratitude to the nations that supported Israel and highlighted the historical context of the international body's attitude toward the Jewish state. According to him, the prolonged “anti-Israel narrative” maintained within the UN contributes to the rise of antisemitic sentiments globally.

“We thank all UN member states that demonstrated their support for Israel in the voting on these resolutions. Nevertheless, we view the outcomes of the UN Fourth Committee's work as yet another glaring example of bias against the Jewish state. The United Nations has had, and continues to have, countless opportunities to demonstrate objectivity regarding attacks on Israel and to impartially examine the circumstances of the Palestinian appeals. However, it consistently chooses to blindly follow political factions pursuing short-term opportunistic interests.

The anti-Israel narrative upheld at the UN significantly impacts the state of global antisemitism. Through our extensive research into anti-Jewish sentiments, we at the EAJC have repeatedly emphasized that latent antisemitism frequently manifests as an anti-Israel stance.”
