The EAJC supports the draft law on mandatory consultations between ministries and Jewish communities

The Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Omer Yankelevich, is actively promoting a bill that mandates government ministries to consult with Jewish communities on matters affecting the Diaspora. The objective of the legislation is to foster closer relations between the Jewish Diaspora and the Israeli government, thereby reinforcing Israel's position as the global center for Jewish life.

EAJC President Dr. Michael Mirilashvili and EAJC CEO Dr. Chaim Ben Yakov have addressed a letter to the Minister of Diaspora Affairs, expressing their unequivocal support for the proposed bill.

In their letter, the EAJC leaders emphasized that the relationship between Israel and the Diaspora is of paramount importance and urgently requires formal regulation. "For many years, representatives of Jewish communities have sought channels to engage with Israeli leaders on issues directly affecting them, yet these efforts have repeatedly fallen short. This is particularly true for representatives of Euro-Asian communities. The complex developments unfolding there are often overlooked in Israel, leading to profound frustration and creating significant friction within the communities," Dr. Mirilashvili and Dr. Ben Yakov noted in their address to Yankelevich. They further expressed their readiness to assist the Minister in advancing this legislative initiative.

"The EAJC consistently advocates for the expansion of dialogue between Diaspora Jewry and the Jewish State, particularly regarding strategic decision-making. Enabling the Israeli leadership to consult with Jewish communities when making key decisions on the future of the Jewish nation is a direct fulfillment of Israel's role as the nation-state of the Jewish people and the core of the Jewish world. Having already acquired unique experience in this domain, we stand ready to continue serving as a vital bridge in this process," stated EAJC CEO Dr. Chaim Ben Yakov.
