EAJC Statement: UN Human Rights Council Policies Fuel Antisemitism

Recently, delegations from 21 nations — led by the United States — strongly condemned a UN commission report on the aftermath of the May 2021 military operation "Guardian of the Walls." A broad discussion took place on June 13 during a session of the UN Human Rights Council. The organization’s special commission once again accused the Jewish state of "occupying territories" and concluded that this is the primary cause of constant tension in the region. In response, the 21 member nations of the Council expressed indignation at the body’s "disproportionate focus on Israel" and demanded an end to such practices.

The global Jewish community joined the discussion regarding the Council's anti-Israel stance. Ronald S. Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), expressed gratitude to the US and other nations for their support of Israel. "The recent attacks on Israel by the UN Human Rights Council, a UN body consistently maintaining an agenda targeted against one specific country, must be universally condemned and entirely dismissed. A commission tasked with analyzing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that fails to even mention Hamas in its resolution cannot be taken seriously," he remarked.

The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) joins in the strong condemnation of the UN commission’s findings and urges world powers to make concerted efforts to balance the distinct anti-Israel bias of the UN Human Rights Council.

EAJC President Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, auxiliary to this, emphasized:

“As Ambassador Lauder rightly pointed out, the very existence of a special commission investigating Israel’s conduct promotes a false narrative that distorts facts and ignores the reality of Palestinian terrorism, which aims to murder civilians and destroy the State of Israel. In studies on antisemitism conducted under the auspices of the EAJC, we have repeatedly highlighted the threat posed by latent antisemitism, which frequently manifests as anti-Israel sentiment.

In this regard, the anti-Israel narrative long cultivated by the UN Human Rights Council only adds fuel to the fire. For instance, the special commission's experts failed to address why dozens of new bomb shelters had to be constructed in southern Israel following the May 2021 escalation — funded in part by public organizations such as the EAJC. Why do Israeli farmers and their families require protection from rocket attacks? By omitting certain facts while exaggerating others, the special commission’s experts distort the reality. Such conduct by an international human rights body is unacceptable and dangerous.”
