On behalf of the leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, EAJC President Dr. Mikhail Mirilashvili extends his warmest congratulations on the 90th birthday of the sports legend, Iosif Roytman.

Iosif Roytman is a multi-time champion and medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, and sambo. Having earned the title of Honored Wrestling Coach in the USSR, he continued his distinguished career following his repatriation to Israel in 1974. Dr. Roytman pioneered sambo wrestling in Israel and taught the discipline within the Israel Defense Forces for a decade. In 1976, he established an Olympic reserve sports school in memory of the Israeli athletes killed in the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre. He currently serves as the Honorary President of the Sambo Federation of Israel.

Born in 1934, Iosif Roytman survived the atrocities of the Second World War as a child. Although his family was deported to a concentration camp, they managed to escape and evacuate to Uzbekistan.

“Dear Iosif,

Your extraordinary life journey and remarkable vitality are a profound source of admiration and inspiration. Individuals of your caliber are truly rare. We wish you many more years of inspiring us with your energy and optimism. The EAJC is deeply grateful for your extensive public service and your numerous initiatives dedicated to the advancement of Jewish and Israeli sports!”
