The holiday of Pesach is approaching – yet another milestone for our people. It is a holiday filled with symbols, meanings, and reflection, wherein year after year we transform ancient history into contemporary relevance.

We are living through challenging times, marked by complex events. Recent history, and especially contemporary developments, often seem incomprehensible. We ask ourselves "why" and "for what reason" this has happened to us, and we do not always grasp the meaning behind it.

However, historical events of the distant past can be viewed from a broader perspective and connected into a single cohesive narrative. Among the enslaved Hebrew nation in Egypt, there were undoubtedly those who could not accept their plight, who wondered how they had allowed themselves to be subjugated, and who lamented why this fate had befallen them. In all likelihood, they found no comforting answers at that particular moment. Yet, looking back at this history through the prism of centuries, we understand that this was merely an initial and necessary phase in forging the spirit and character of a nation – a nation destined for a great, millennia-long history.

May this teach us patience and an unwavering faith that what is happening holds meaning, and that a better future lies ahead.

On Wednesday evening, Jews worldwide, regardless of their place of residence, language, political convictions, or other views, will gather at the Seder table to read the same text of the Passover Haggadah and sing the same songs. This is what has united our people for thousands of years. On this holiday, one wishes to believe that the unity of our nation lies not only in ritual, but in common goals, values, hopes, and aspirations.
