The EAJC extends its warmest congratulations on the occasion of Passover!

Dear Friends,

The festival of Pesach is approaching. It is a holiday that commemorates the events that shaped us as a nation and marked the beginning of our return to our homeland. It is a holiday that taught us the true meaning of freedom.

In our prayers, we refer to this period as the "time of our freedom." Conceived in the abstract, it is obvious to us that freedom is preferable to bondage. Yet, distinguishing one from the other is not always straightforward. Three millennia ago, many among our enslaved ancestors believed that the stability of Egyptian servitude was preferable to the uncertainty of the Exodus. It was only steadfast faith in the Almighty that enabled them, despite all odds, to strive for freedom and independence, to take risks, and to rely on their faith.

We have preserved our traditions through the millennia. Today, we celebrate the very joint festival that our ancient ancestors observed. Throughout the centuries, we have also carried an unquenchable thirst for freedom. Jewish history presents numerous instances of exodus. One of these, in the last century, led us to once again return to our land and establish a modern Jewish state, which opened its gates to all Jews dispersed across the globe. Since then, every Jew, regardless of their place of residence, has found their eternal home.

The Jewish people have celebrated Pesach even during the most challenging of times. This year, many Jews in our region will observe the holiday away from their homes. This is a difficult period, yet today we celebrate a festival of unity, faith in the future, and firm confidence in the imminent transition to freedom.

During this Pesach, I wish for every Jew to attain their freedom. I wish you a kosher and joyous holiday. Chag Kasher ve'Sameach!
