The EAJC will participate in the scientific conference dedicated to the memory of Mikhail Chlenov

The International Center for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem), in cooperation with the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, invites you to participate in a one-day conference dedicated to the prominent orientalist, anthropologist, and public figure Mikhail Anatolyevich Chlenov (1940-2024).

The conference will be held on September 10 in Jerusalem, at the World Union of Jewish Studies (The Hebrew University, Mount Scopus Campus, Rabin Building, Room 2001).

For participants located outside Israel, access to the conference will be provided via Zoom.


Conference Content and Format

The program features a memorial session (with brief tributes to the life and achievements of Mikhail Chlenov, 5–7 minutes each) and three academic sessions (consisting of 2–3 presentations of 15–20 minutes, followed by a discussion) on the following topics:

  • The ethnographic palette: from the Maluku Islands and the Bering Strait to Jewish sub-ethnic groups.

  • The theory of Jewish civilization: at the intersection of academia and public activism.

  • The Jewish movement in the Soviet Union and post-Soviet cultural landscape.

Presentations are strictly limited to 15–20 minutes.
