The EAJC welcomes the opening of the Israeli Embassy in Turkmenistan

The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen, attended the official opening ceremony of the Jewish state's embassy in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. The landmark ceremony took place on Thursday, April 20. Notably, this diplomatic mission is now geographically closest to the border with Iran, situated just 17 kilometers away.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress welcomes this development. The opening of the Israeli embassy in Ashgabat demonstrates a significant advancement in relations between Israel and the Muslim-majority nations of Central Asia.

Prior to this, the head of Israeli diplomacy also paid a visit to Azerbaijan. The Israeli delegation met with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku. The discussions centered on strengthening the political alliance between Israel and Azerbaijan, cooperation in defense and regional security, counter-terrorism efforts, and the further expansion of economic and tourism ties between the two nations.

These talks occurred shortly after the opening of the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tel Aviv, a historic step that also received strong endorsement from the Congress leadership.
