The EAJC will host a presentation of the Yearbook.

“Wars, Repatriates, Antisemites, and Pasternak”: EAJC to Present the Yearbook and Address Urgent Issues in the Jewish Diaspora.

On Thursday, November 28, the ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv will host a Public Talk entitled “Wars, Repatriates, Antisemites, and Pasternak,” featuring prominent scholars in the fields of Jewish history, sociology, political science, and Jewish studies.

The event marks the publication of the EAJC Yearbook, "Jews of Europe and Asia: Present State, Heritage, and Outlook," for the Jewish year 5784. This collection of academic and publicistic articles is prepared by the Institute of Euro-Asian Jewish Studies (IEAJS) in academic cooperation with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Contributing authors of the Yearbook will participate in the roundtable discussion:

• Ze'ev Khanin – Academic Director of the IEAJS, Professor of Political Sociology (Bar-Ilan University), author of articles on the challenges faced by Jewish communities in Ukraine and Russia amidst the ongoing war, and the global surge in antisemitism during Israel's operations in Gaza and Lebanon.

• Dmitry Maryasis – Israel scholar and Economist, PhD, author of an article on the contribution of the "Great Aliyah" to Israeli socio-economic development.

• Anna Klyatis – Philologist and Literary Scholar, PhD, Professor at Briva Universitate, Researcher at the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Center, author of an article on the participation of artist Leonid Pasternak (father of poet and novelist Boris Pasternak) in the "Palestine Expedition" led by A. Kogan a century ago.

• Maria Kaspina – Ethnographer and Folklorist specializing in Jewish folklore, author of an article investigating the perspectives of secular Jews on Judaism.

• Velvl Chernin – Poet, Ethnographer, Translator, Literary Scholar, and Instructor of Yiddish language and culture, author of an article on the world of Yiddish and its modern proponents.

• Petr Oskolkov – Specialist in ethnic politics and the sociology of right-wing extremism, Managing Editor of the current volume of the EAJC Yearbook.

Moderator: Haim Ben-Yakov, Director General of the EAJC, and author of articles examining antisemitism across the post-Soviet space and the operations of Jewish communities in the Euro-Asian region amidst major humanitarian, military, and political crises of recent years.

The panelists will address the profound disruptions of recent years confronting the global Jewish community, including the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and Israel's military operations against the terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah following the October 7 attacks.
