The EAJC mourns the passing of Mikhail Skoblionok

Entrepreneur, philanthropist, and one of the prominent leaders of the Russian Jewish community, Mikhail Skoblionok, has passed away at the age of 79. The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress — and personally its President, Dr. Mikhael Mirilashvili — extend their deepest and most sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

For many years, Mikhail Skoblionok served as the head of the regional Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy in the Republic of Tatarstan. A successful entrepreneur, he was deeply committed to civic engagement and philanthropy, playing a pivotal role in the revival of Jewish communal life in Tatarstan. In particular, through his dedicated efforts, the synagogue building in Kazan was restored, a Jewish day school was established, and a Jewish music festival was founded.

Mikhail Abramovich was a regular participant in the General Assembly meetings of the EAJC, actively representing regional organizations and communities.

Mikhail Skoblionok was a close personal friend of EAJC President Dr. Mikhael Mirilashvili. Offering his condolences to the bereaved family, Dr. Mirilashvili remarked:

“I fondly recall our warm meetings and joint initiatives dedicated to advancing Jewish education and communal life across the post-Soviet space. To everyone familiar with the Jewish community of Russia, he will be remembered as a pioneer and a highly influential figure in the revival of Jewish life, starting from the late Soviet era. He founded a Jewish school that became one of the finest in Russia, stood as a pillar of the renewed Jewish community in the post-Soviet era, and was always ready to extend his support to those in need.”

The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress extends its profound condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mikhail Skoblionok. May his memory be a blessing.
