The EAJC mourns the passing of its Honorary President, Alexander Mashkevich

At the age of 71, Alexander Mashkevich, a prominent entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Honorary President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), has passed away. The leadership of the EAJC mourns this loss and extends its deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who knew this extraordinary individual.

Throughout his life, Alexander Mashkevich achieved an immense amount across a wide range of endeavors. Through his proactive stance and leadership, he served as a brilliant role model for the entire regional Jewish community.

Alexander Mashkevich led the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress for over a decade, starting in 2002. Under his leadership, the EAJC developed into one of the largest international Jewish organizations, uniting communities across the CIS, Europe, and Asia.

Through Mashkevich's efforts, the Congress became an active participant in dialogue with global Jewish organizations, including the World Jewish Congress (WJC). The Congress continues to implement programs aimed at developing Jewish education, preserving Jewish heritage, and supporting charitable initiatives in numerous countries.

Among Mashkevich’s key achievements as President of the EAJC were the expansion of the Congress's humanitarian initiatives, support for Jewish schools and educational centers, assistance to vulnerable community members, and active engagement with various governments to preserve the historical memory of the Holocaust.

One of the latest major cultural projects implemented with the direct involvement of Alexander Mashkevich was the memorial museum dedicated to Albanian citizens who saved Jews during World War II. Furthermore, the Honorary President of the EAJC participated in the evacuation of Albanian citizens from Afghanistan during the period of massive upheaval in that country.

The President of the EAJC, Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, expressed his condolences to the family and relatives of Alexander Mashkevich:

“This is a profound loss for the entire Jewish world. Alexander always commanded genuine admiration for his monumental achievements—both as a highly successful entrepreneur and in public life as a leader and philanthropist. His readiness to offer assistance and support under any circumstances was unwavering and unprecedented. It is by no means an exaggeration to state that in many respects I consider him my mentor. Attentiveness, sensitivity to others, warmth, kindness, and deep respect for people—these are the qualities I learned from Alexander.”

His life journey, marked by energy and a drive for positive change, will remain an enduring example of resilience and dedication to his mission.
