The EAJC mourns the passing of the poet and artist Mikhail Grobman

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress mourns the passing of Mikhail Grobman, an outstanding artist, poet, art theorist, and one of the founding fathers of Israeli Conceptualism.

Born in Moscow in 1939, Grobman progressed from early underground exhibitions and samizdat literary publications to developing a unique artistic language that fused Jewish identity, avant-garde traditions, and personal creative exploration. His repatriation to Israel in 1971 marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life and work: there he founded the Leviathan group, published a journal of the same name, and emerged as a key figure in Israeli contemporary art. Today, Grobman’s works are exhibited in leading museums worldwide and are of the highest artistic value.

Mikhail Grobman’s contribution to Israeli culture is truly invaluable. Far from a mere sentiment, he has left a legacy that will continue to inspire artists and scholars for many years to come.
