The EAJC mourns the passing of Rabbi Richard Hirsch at the age of 94. Born in Cleveland (USA), Rabbi Hirsch was ordained in 1951. In 1962, he founded the Religious Action Center, a civil rights advocacy association in the United States. In 1973, Rabbi Hirsch immigrated to Israel and for many years held critical positions within the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Israel (Sochnut), including Chairman of the Committee for Services to the Former Soviet Union. He was elected President of the 33rd World Zionist Congress. In 2010, he was honored with the lighting of a torch for Israel's Independence Day. May his memory be a blessing.
