Jews and Slavs: A Millennium of Dialogue. In Conversation: Konstantin Bondar and Borukh Gorin (Video)

The online publication "Lchaim" has published a video recording of a discussion between Konstantin Bondar, a philologist, historian, orientalist, researcher of Old Russian literature and Judeo-Slavic literary relations, and Professor at Tel Aviv University, and Boruch Gorin, Editor-in-Chief of the Knizhniki Publishing House. The dialogue took place at the Literary Patrons Club of the Knizhniki Publishing House (Moscow) on the initiative of the Russian branch of the EAJC. This year, with the support of the EAJC, Konstantin Bondar's book "Between Canaan and Ruthenia: Judeo-Slavic Literature and Scribes" was published in Kyiv. According to Bella Waldberg, Director General of EAJC-Russia, "when it became known that Professor Konstantin Bondar would participate in the Sefer International Conference in Moscow, we suggested that the Literary Patrons Club arrange a meeting with this unique expert. We are delighted that this engaging dialogue took place and is now available on YouTube."

The topic of the discussion was defined as "Jews and Slavs: A Millennium-Long Dialogue." The conversation addressed the classes of medieval scribes in Judeo-Slavic literary contacts over the centuries—ranging from early interactions in Kyivan Rus during the "Kanaanite" era to later relations in the Ukrainian and Belarusian territories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania—as well as the reflection of Judeo-Slavic literary monuments in the literature of the Muscovite State.
