The Director General of the EAJC, Haim Ben-Yakov, addressed the participants of the inaugural International Convention on Combating Antisemitism in Bucharest.

Dr. Haim Ben Yakov, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, stated in his address to the forum: "There is a growing awareness that antisemitism is not solely a concern for the Jewish people and the State of Israel, but a universal human rights issue. Numerous nations have appointed special envoys to address this matter. Recently, Bucharest, as the current host of the Council of the European Union, convened the inaugural joint meeting of European community directors, human rights commissioners, and special envoys tasked with combating antisemitism, racism, and xenophobia. We look forward to governments taking decisive action to eliminate this deplorable phenomenon."

The First International Forum on Combating Antisemitism brought together over 30 special envoys and coordinators dedicated to countering antisemitism, alongside 50 executive directors representing Jewish community organizations from 44 nations.

Distinguished participants of the forum included Katharina von Schnurbein, European Commission Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism; Elan Carr, US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism; Felix Klein, Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany and the Fight against Antisemitism; Robert Singer, Executive Vice President and CEO of the World Jewish Congress; Mark Weitzman, Director of Government Affairs for the Simon Wiesenthal Center; and Fernand de Varennes, UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress urges state leaders to adopt a resolute stance and implement concrete measures to eradicate this deplorable phenomenon.
