The Director General of the EAJC addressed the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress in Munich

Dr. Haim Ben-Yakov, Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, addressed members of the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) gathered in Munich.

Addressing contemporary antisemitism at a meeting of the WJC Global Security Department, Dr. Haim Ben-Yakov presented the findings of a major new study, "Portrait of the Jewish Population in the Post-Soviet Space," conducted by the Institute for Euro-Asian Jewish Studies, a special project of the EAJC.

The study illustrates a fundamental shift away from the state-sponsored antisemitism of the Soviet era and a decrease in violence motivated by antisemitic attitudes. For example, for several consecutive years, Ukraine has reported zero cases of antisemitism-related physical violence.

Regrettably, this does not imply that antisemitism is no longer an issue in the post-Soviet space. According to the research, antisemitic incidents in post-Soviet states predominantly stem from Judeophobia, incitement to hatred against Jews, antisemitic media publications, and antisemitic stereotypes.

Dr. Haim Ben-Yakov outlined the EAJC initiatives and projects aimed at combating antisemitism, including research and monitoring, the "Public Diplomacy" program, and new engagement strategies geared towards Jewish students, among others.

"The EAJC is committed to improving the situation of Jewish communities across the Euro-Asian region, which includes advocating for legislation and state policies directed against antisemitism," stated Dr. Haim Ben-Yakov. "We call on leaders of Jewish communities in Eastern Europe and post-Soviet Eurasia to engage in a professional and constructive dialogue. The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is resolved to provide a platform and serve as a partner in this critical process."

The WJC Executive Committee adopted a special resolution to combat antisemitism and urged international organizations, governments, academic institutions, online platforms, and social media companies to unite in their efforts against this dangerous phenomenon.
