The First Anniversary of the October 7th Tragedy

Exactly one year has passed since the catastrophic day when Hamas terrorists breached the Israeli border, perpetrating a brutal massacre across border communities, kibbutzim, military installations, and the music festival in Re'im. Regrettably, Israel was unprepared for this incursion, leaving its citizens defenseless against thousands of terrorists for many hours. However, once the initial shock subsided, the Israeli military and civil society mounted a formidable defense, demonstrating profound self-sacrifice and solidarity. Since that day, Israel has been engaged in a highly complex multi-front war.

It will take many years to fully comprehend the events of October 7 and their aftermath. Exceptionally symbolic is the fact that this year, the anniversary falls during the Days of Atonement, between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur—a period dedicated to self-reflection, rectifying past errors, and practicing humility and compassion. These are days when we hope and pray for a favorable judgment in the year ahead.

On this solemn first anniversary of the tragedy, we honor and remember the victims of that dark day, pay tribute to the fallen heroes, and pray for the safe return of the innocent hostages who have survived a year of captivity in the Gaza Strip.
