On Thursday, June 24, the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress held an online meeting. The session was attended by the President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, Chairman of the EAJC Board Aaron G. Frenkel, First Vice-President of the EAJC Boris Lozhkin, alongside other prominent leaders of Jewish communities worldwide. The recently appointed Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Nachman Shai, attended the meeting as a special guest.
During the discussion, WJC President Ronald Lauder and Minister Nachman Shai consensusly agreed that fostering mutual understanding between young Diaspora Jews and Israeli society must remain a paramount priority for both the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the State of Israel. Dr. Shai declared that his ministry is fully committed to active cooperation with Jewish organizations representing the Diaspora. He further emphasized that this is a reciprocal process: while Israel must support Diaspora Jews and respect their perspectives, the Diaspora must also proactively engage and seek connection with Israel.
Dr. Shai, who previously served as the Press Secretary of the permanent delegation of Israel to the UN and Head of the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, has been a Member of the Knesset since 2009. The leaders of the World Jewish Congress extended their wishes for success to the Minister in his new role and expressed their commitment to a productive partnership.
