An Israeli Expert Outlines Palliative Care Strategies for COVID-19 Patients

The EAJC Representative Office in Russia, in cooperation with the Israeli-Russian Business Council, the Russian Union of Jewish Students (RUJS), and Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, organized an online meeting with Israeli medical expert Claudia Konzon on the topic of "Palliative Care in the Era of Coronavirus: The Israeli Experience."

Claudia Konzon is a prominent Israeli expert in palliative care, a healthcare management specialist, a member of the British Geriatrics Society, the director of a geriatric center for the long-term hospitalization of chronic patients in Israel, and the author of scientific articles and publications in Israeli and international journals. Claudia Konzon also actively collaborates with the Moscow Department of Healthcare.

The online meeting was attended by over 220 medical professionals, as well as students and young people from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other Russian cities.

During the meeting, Claudia Konzon focused on various aspects and specifics of palliative care under the challenging epidemiological conditions caused by the coronavirus. 

In particular, Claudia addressed the management of terminally ill patients during the pandemic, discussed ethical dilemmas related to coronavirus and advanced age, spoke about staff support during the crisis, shared Israeli approaches to operating under pandemic conditions, and touched upon the balance between medical and social care in the context of coronavirus disease. Furthermore, Claudia Konzon provided detailed answers to numerous questions from the participants.
