Access to Hebrew Language Studies is Expanding Across Europe

The Jewish Community of Montenegro is launching Hebrew language courses—Aleph level (beginner)—tailored for individuals seeking to acquire essential communication skills and master the vocabulary necessary for daily conversation, reading, and writing. According to the Community, these courses are open to Jewish individuals as well as anyone wishing to learn more about the Jewish people, their culture, and the language spoken in Israel. No prior knowledge is required. Classes will be held at the headquarters of the Jewish Community of Montenegro in Podgorica.

Over the past month, several other significant events have taken place within the Jewish Community of Montenegro. In late October, Budva hosted the Sixth Annual "Mahar" ("Tomorrow") Conference, organized with the active support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. The conference brought together delegates from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Albania, other Eastern European nations, and Israel. This year, the event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel. The introduction of Hebrew courses is expected to further facilitate cultural relations between Israel and Montenegro and strengthen the community's ties to their historical homeland.

Additionally, the Jewish Community co-organized the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Montenegro Town Library in Cetinje. The anniversary evening commenced with a presentation of Jewish culture, featuring a performance by the "Mois Hason" choir from Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. In 2015, the Jewish Community of Montenegro established its own Dr. Albert Weiss Library (1905–1964), named in honor of the prominent Yugoslav jurist, Holocaust survivor, and member of the Yugoslav delegation at the Nuremberg trials.
