The Claims Conference has successfully lobbied Facebook to revise its policy on Holocaust denial

The EAJC extends its congratulations to its partner, the Claims Conference, on successfully advocating for an update to Facebook's hate speech policy, which will now prohibit all forms of Holocaust denial and distortion on its platform.

Since July of this year, the Claims Conference has consistently published appeals from Holocaust survivors addressed to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, requesting the removal of posts containing Holocaust denial or historical distortion. Facebook’s official announcement that it will ban such content represents a significant victory, primarily for the survivors themselves. Their appeals were published by the Claims Conference and widely circulated by its partners.

«The issue of Holocaust denial, the so-called revisionist theory of Holocaust memory, poses, in our view, an immense danger. Holocaust denial is fundamentally a contemporary manifestation of antisemitism.

With the evolution of social media, this form of antisemitism, along with the dissemination of various antisemitic theories and stereotypes surrounding the history of the Holocaust, has begun to exert a substantial influence on the younger generation. Young people, who constitute a primary audience for social media, have been subjected to an endless stream of disinformation aimed at denying and distorting the facts of the Holocaust. We welcome Facebook's decision to ban Holocaust denial and urge all social media platforms to follow suit,» stated Dr. Chaim Ben Yakov, Director General of the EAJC and member of the Board of Directors of the Claims Conference.
