EAJC leaders addressed the members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

On behalf of the leaders of the EAJC, Dr. Michael Mirilashvili, President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, addressed a letter to the members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and personally to Olha Vasylevska-Smagliuk, sponsor of Bill No. 5530, which proposes the official designation of Hamas as a terrorist organization. The leaders of the EAJC, including Boris Lozhkin, head of the Confederation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, unanimously endorsed the initiative.

This draft resolution is an essential milestone in relations between Ukraine and Israel, and we expect its swift adoption. The Hamas terrorist organization, which aims to destroy the State of Israel, has been actively seeking to undermine the sovereignty of the Jewish State for decades. Members of this group perpetrate terrorist attacks against civilians, instigate border riots, and launch rocket attacks at Israeli cities. During the latest escalation alone, 12 Israeli citizens lost their lives, including a 5-year-old child, and dozens were injured, many of them severely.

Consistent international pressure exerts a deterrent effect on Hamas leadership, which underscores the critical importance of the draft resolution sponsored by MP Vasylevska-Smagliuk. The more countries that openly declare their counter-terrorism stance, the greater the prospects for Israel to achieve regional stabilization.

The EAJC calls on all members of the Verkhovna Rada to support draft resolution No. 5530, and urges Iryna Venediktova, Prosecutor General of Ukraine, to immediately petition the court to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization. This decisive measure will further strengthen bilateral ties between Ukraine and Israel, serving as a significant chapter in the global fight against international terrorism.
